LG has been using and updating their smart TV Operating System since 2014. It is constantly evolving to meet the needs of the ever changing streaming and media landscape. LG has continuously pushed the envelope in the smart TV space introducing new features and great UI in the industry. Their WebOS platform takes up a small sliver of the market but is growing and is continually praised for its UI features. The user interface is one of the best in the market but users have reported a few pain points and the smart TV market is rapidly changing with new features and services being offered every year. The research highlights a few key areas of user frustrations and chances for growth. The overwhelming introduction of ads has frustrated many users, many are citing that they no longer feel this product is worth the money due to the experience of having so much screen real estate covered by ads.
We suggest creating more ads that are engaging rather than taking up massive screen real estate. For users that like to browse having multiple profiles can mess up suggestions, and sitting in front of multiple users(such as a family watching) may not calibrate the right search results due to the algorithm being improperly trained. Creating user profiles may help solve this issue. Some other commonly reported issues include, laggyness, ads scattered throughout the browsing experience, lack of intuitive interfaces and inter app complexities.
